Why Mulch Matters

Fresh mulch does more than look good. It suppresses weeds by blocking sunlight from reaching weed seeds. It retains soil moisture, reducing how often you need to water. And it insulates plant roots from Colorado's temperature swings.

A 2-3 inch layer of quality mulch can cut weed growth by 90% and reduce watering needs by 25%. In Centennial's dry climate, that water savings adds up fast.

Color Options

We offer three mulch colors:

  • Brown: The most natural look. Blends with Colorado landscapes and holds its color well.
  • Red: Bold contrast against green plants and light-colored homes. Popular for modern landscapes.
  • Black: Clean, dramatic look. Great for contemporary homes and formal garden beds.

All three are premium quality, double-shredded for a clean appearance and better moisture retention.

Our Installation Process

We do not just dump mulch in your beds. Here is what a full installation includes:

  • Edge all garden beds with clean, defined lines
  • Remove existing weeds and debris
  • Spread mulch evenly at 2-3 inches deep
  • Keep mulch pulled back from tree trunks and plant stems (piling mulch against trunks causes rot)
  • Clean up all walkways and driveways

The difference between DIY mulch and professional installation is in the prep work. Clean edges and proper depth make the finished product look sharp.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I refresh my mulch?

Most homeowners refresh mulch once a year, usually in spring. Colorado's strong sun fades the color and the layer compresses, so by fall it has usually lost depth and color.

Should I put down weed barrier under the mulch?

We don't recommend fabric weed barrier. It degrades after 3 to 5 years, shreds into the soil and becomes very hard to remove, and it blocks water and nutrients from reaching plant roots.

Do you remove old mulch before installing new?

If the existing mulch is still in good shape, we add 1 to 2 inches on top instead of removing it. That costs less and works just as well.

Can mulch hurt my trees?

Yes, if it is piled against the trunk. That traps moisture against the bark and can cause rot and disease. We always pull mulch back from trunks.
